Let’s Watch A Launch!

One of the most memorable things to do on the Space Coast of Florida is to watch a rocket launch. Currently, SpaceX has a robust launch schedule from Kennedy Space Center including two launches this weekend.

Tomorrow, August 8, with a launch window starting at 9:40 AM, Space X will use its’ Falcon 9 rocket to deliver Amazon Kuiper Satellites to low Earth orbit. Launch pad 40 will be used for this mission. There are several excellent launch sites for viewing including Jetty Park. Public parking is available in the park or in a nearby parking garage.

Lenny and I have been fortunate enough to attend several SpaceX rocket launches. The photo above is one of the Falcon 9 preparing to land. It was taken from Jetty Park, as we stood on the Pier. You can hear the sonic boom from this location.

The second launch opportunity is Sunday, August 10 with a launch window beginning at 8;16 AM. This launch also takes place from Launch Complex 40. The Falcon 9 rocket is reusable and for this launch will return to a floating platform named, “Just Read The Instructions.” You have to love the humor of the SpaceX engineers.

As you can see from the photo below, Jetty Park is a great place to watch the rocket launch. Often families will go to a launch and also use the public beach for a great beach day.

Additional launch opportunities include: United Launch Alliance (ULA) on 8/12 @ 7:59 PM from Launch Complex 41, SpaceX on 8/13 @ 8:41AM from Launch Complex 40, and the a Dragon Resupply Mission to the ISS on 8/21 @ 3:57AM. This Dragon resupply mission is most exciting as you will have the opportunity to see the Falcon 9 land on land.

Also, if you are attending a space launch in Florida, you will need to stay hydrated. Don’t forget to bring a water bottle! My favorite is https://amzn.to/4jdOmP4

Enjoy your next rocket launch!

All the best,

Jennifer
