Flamingo Lodge Reopens in Everglades National Park: A Sustainable Retreat in Florida's Wilderness
After nearly two decades, the Flamingo Lodge has reopened its doors in Everglades National Park, offering visitors a unique blend of comfort and sustainability amidst the park's vast subtropical wilderness.
A Resilient Comeback
Originally destroyed by hurricanes in 2005, the new Flamingo Lodge has been thoughtfully reconstructed using repurposed shipping containers elevated on 13-foot concrete pillars. This design not only pays homage to the lodge's history but also ensures resilience against future storms and rising sea levels.
Accommodations with a View
The lodge features 24 rooms, including studios, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom suites, all equipped with kitchenettes and private balconies overlooking Florida Bay. Four of these rooms are ADA-accessible, ensuring inclusivity for all guests.
Dining and Amenities
Adjacent to the lodge, the Flamingo Restaurant offers daily breakfast, lunch, and dinner, complemented by a full-service bar. Guests can savor local flavors while enjoying panoramic views of the bay.
Gateway to Adventure
Located at the southernmost point of the Florida peninsula, the lodge serves as a perfect base for exploring the park's diverse ecosystems. Activities include kayaking, birdwatching, and boat tours, providing immersive experiences in one of the nation's most unique natural settings.
